Neurodivergent Therapy in Rolla, MO
Neurodivergent people often experience attention, communication, emotions, relationships, and sensory input differently. These differences can create challenges in school, work, family life, and everyday routines, especially when the people or environments around them are not well suited to their needs.
I provide neurodivergent therapy in Rolla, Missouri, for children, adolescents, and young adults who want support that respects the way they think, communicate, and process the world. My goal is not to treat neurodivergence as something that needs to be fixed. Instead, I work with clients to better understand their experiences, build practical skills, and address the concerns that are affecting their quality of life.
I have completed specialized training for working with Autistic people through the University of Missouri’s ECHO Autism program, along with training related to attachment concerns and complex developmental trauma.
What Is Neurodivergent Therapy?
Neurodivergent therapy is counseling tailored to people whose neurological development or functioning differs from what is considered typical. This can include people with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or other neurological differences.
I tailor therapy to each client’s strengths, concerns, goals, and communication style. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is one of my highest priorities because clients need to feel safe and comfortable enough to engage honestly in the process.
Issues Neurodivergent Therapy Can Help Address
Clients often come to therapy for concerns connected to ADHD or Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as challenges that overlap with anxiety, trauma, relationships, and life transitions.
Therapy for neurodivergence can address areas such as:
Attention, organization, and impulsivity
Emotional regulation
Anxiety and stress
Family or relationship conflict
Self-esteem and identity
Trauma and difficult past experiences
School or work challenges
Major life transitions
Feeling overwhelmed by everyday expectations
What Neurodivergent Therapy Looks Like
There is no single approach to therapy that works for every neurodivergent person. I adapt sessions to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to a rigid therapy format.
Depending on your needs, we can work on recognizing patterns, developing coping strategies, improving communication, understanding emotional responses, processing difficult experiences, and finding practical ways to make daily responsibilities more manageable. When I work with younger clients, family involvement can also be part of the therapeutic process when appropriate.
