The first of these are in-person interviews with prospective adoptive parents and all members of their household. These interviews involves obtaining a detailed social history for each prospective parent and other household members.

During your interview, you can expect to answer questions regarding your family of origin, discipline methods, beliefs and values, education and employment, current relationships, medical and mental health history, financial status, and many other areas of your life.

The second component involves an inspection of your home which will involve at least two separate in-person visits to your residence.

All areas of your residence will need to be viewed for inspection in order to properly determine if your home is appropriate and safe.

The third and final component involves background checks and obtaining supporting documentation. You will be asked to provide references from family members, friends (nonrelated persons), and your employment.

Background checks will need to be completed related to any criminal history/background, child neglect/abuse history, and fingerprinting. Medical reports on all adults in your home will need to be provided as well as documentation of your income and financial resources.

What are They?
Adoptive family assessments, known as home studies, are comprehensive evaluations that are completed to evaluate a family’s readiness and suitability in the adoption process. These assessments includes three main components.

The Process
Once I have been identified as the evaluator for the study, you will have some initial forms to complete and will receive instructions for completing the background checks.

I will work with you to schedule and complete the in-person interviews and the home visits. After contacting your references and reviewing required documents you provide, I will write a comprehensive report which will be provided for all parties.
